UNBINDING THE GAY CONSCIENCE
|

When we realize that God “likes” us, we can begin to relax with God and become all that we were intended to be.
|

|
|
|
|
Now if the Gospel means anything at all it means that the Good News about God is unambivalent, that there are no “if’s” and “but”s in God, God’s love is unconditional. And this means....God desires that our desire should flow free, life-giving and untrammeled, because it is in that flow of desire that we are called into being.”

[Being a gay Catholic means]...refusing the lure of the ecclesiastical closet which binds conscience and makes people unfree, leading to dysfunctional relations and an inability to love and to tell the truth.”

Ecclesiology and Indifference: Challenges for Gay and Lesbian Ministry
|

What I would like to suggest to you is that Judaism and Christianity are both religions of the collapsing Temple.
|
|
|
|
|
To put this in another way: the notion of “Shepherd” is always to be understood not just as a nice image among other nice images, but only makes sense in critical juxtaposition to the notion of “Temple”.
|
|
|
|
|
|
From now on the Temple is wherever ordinary human beings are engaged together in prayer, in treating each other in a way which builds up, and wherever they are together undoing the world of violent sacrifice.
